So this year I turn 65 (on 15th Sept in case you didn’t know) and I can claim both my state pension and also a couple of other employment pensions – upshot I can retire. Or as I prefer to think of it I will be released back into the wild after a period of 41 years of captivity as a wage slave. So once the cage door swings open I intend to be off and run free – I’ll mount my trusty steed and head South (it’s as good a direction as any) like a rat from a trap.
Of course I’ll have to cross the moat first – but Brittany Ferries kindly lay on a boat heading that way. Once I arrive on t’other side it is South until I hit the sea in the middle of the land (Mediterranean) and then decide whether to turn left (towards Italy) or right (towards Spain)
Actually that decision has been pretty much made as I have a relation living along the coast in France near the Italian border, so that’ll make a friendly place to rest up and consider what I’ve learnt.
Conflictedly I have also agreed to be back in the UK at the end of October for Eilidh’s Tree Planting ceremony at Gwel Dulas. But once that is over it’s onward to Pedal from Paris (to Bonn) with Euan and Ewan (and Ricky in spirit).
So that’s the plan – the devil will be in the detail. More anon…
