Rain. Well it had to happen. But it was a short day anyway, and a day off tomorrow so probably the best day for it. Wrap everything up and go out in it. No photos today. Continue reading “Day 8 – Touron to Chabanne”

Day 10 – Chabanne to Ambernac
After a good day and a half out of the saddle it was time to get back on the road again.
Very enjoyable break and good to see Clare & Fiona, Richard, Laura, Lawrie (or Laurie, who has done an excellent job on the new roof room) & Nikki, and Phil & Alison. Mutch catching up and new discoveries were made and blue skies appeared in the afternoon to keep us sitting out and drinking perhaps later than intended. Day 11 – Ambernac to Cognac
(photos from yesterday now posted)
A pleasant evening with Helene and Herve practising my french. I think they got most of what I said and I got about 40% of what the said first time. She’s a nurse doing occasional night shifts down in Cognac and he farms the 50 Ha with 60 dairy cows on his own. 3 grown up children all fled the nest hence the AirBnB of their rooms to bring a bit of variety to life. Day 12 – Cognac to Soulac-sur-Mer
Another comfortable night in a different room. This one done in a modern style in an old stone built terrace cottage by the river L’Antene on the west side of Cognac.
Day 13 – Soulac rest day
Of Gear, Gears and Gearing Up
A rainy rest day. A post for me and cycling nerds. Pass along please, nothing to see…
So after two weeks how’s the bike and stuff holding up?
Day 14 – a Watery Rest Day
Day 15 – Soulac to Andernos-les-Bains
Firstly thanks to Chris & John for two fabulous days at BeauChene in Soulac-sur-Mer. Incidentally it is up for sale so if anyone fancies a lovely house in the Gironde / Medoc area (where some of the best French red wines come from) with two holiday letting apartments in a very popular holiday area you know what to do. Day 16 – Andernos-les-Bains to Fontet
Woken by heavy rain at 6am. Went back to sleep and woke to overcast day but no rain. And so it stayed, very warm and muggy, overcast with black rain clouds in every direction you looked, wet ground, but no rain on me as I moved onward.
Day 17 – Fontet to Moissac
The sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip horray,
The sun has got his hat on and he’s coming out to play. Continue reading “Day 17 – Fontet to Moissac”
