So this year I turn 65 (on 15th Sept in case you didn’t know) and I can claim both my state pension and also a couple of other employment pensions – upshot I can retire. Or as I prefer to think of it I will be released back into the wild after a period of 41 years of captivity as a wage slave. Continue reading “The plan is …”

Why?
Why am I doing this? (the Release into the Wild ride)
Apart from the obvious answers that it seemed like a good idea when I thought of it and nothing yet has persuaded me otherwise, and that I think it’ll be fun and a bit of a challenge, there are others layer of reasons. Continue reading “Why?”

La Route – peut-être?
So here’s the intended route (Warning: hills may go up as well as down and reality will differ from preconceived plans) – from Roscoff to Clare’n’Fiona’s should take about 8 days – it seems to be 650km by a cycle friendly route. Continue reading “La Route – peut-être?”
Day 1 – Roscoff to Kermoigne
A good start. Ferry arrives on time, weather excellent – mostly sunny, not to hot, no wind to notice. Made very good time and arrived before 5pm even after an hour for coffee, an hour for lunch lying in the sun and half an hour with a couple of beers in a bar near the end. Day 2 Kermoigne to Moelan-sur-Mer

Day 5 – Blain to Bouchemaine
Wow what a fabulous day. I overslept a bit but managed to get off shortly after 9. In summary sunny flat quiet roads and cycle paths lovely scenery. Not too hot, just perfect weather and terrain. Nothing not to like. Continue reading “Day 5 – Blain to Bouchemaine”
Day 6 – Bouchemaine to Avione
Well after the highs of yesterday I was due to be taken down a peg or two. Continue reading “Day 6 – Bouchemaine to Avione”
Day 7 – Avione to Touron St. Martin
Slept comme un masse encore (Laurent told me that was french for like a log. Comme un bebe is more gentle) and up with the sun (which doesn’t rise here till about 8) to get going for another long day. Continue reading “Day 7 – Avione to Touron St. Martin”
